< STATEMENT >
We, the Australian organisations for “Comfort Women” justice (Friends of “Comfort Women” in Sydney, Friends of “Comfort Women” in Melbourne and Brisbane Candlelight Action) are deeply disappointed and infuriated about the results of the second trial today.
National Assemblywoman Meehyang Youn and Dong-hee Kim have dedicated themselves tirelessly to gender equality, human rights, and peace, and it is time to recognise the value of their efforts.
The second trial verdict differs significantly from the first trial, and we have serious doubts about this decision.
Despite nearly all charges being acquitted in the first trial, the second trial imposed harsh sentences and guilty verdicts. National Assemblywoman Meehyang Youn and Dong-hee Kim have devoted themselves for a long time to raise this crucial global issue of sexual slavery alongside survivors of sexual slavery.
Their work of activism is a significant contribution to humanities’ history of human rights.
We firmly believe in the innocence of national assemblywoman Meehyang Youn and Dong-hee Kim, and we trust that the truth will be revealed through the Supreme Court appeal process.
This verdict should give us more determination and strength. Finally, we send our trust and support to National Assemblywoman Meehyang Youn and Dong-hee Kim and promise to continue our efforts for their fair trial judgment.

일본군‘위안부’ 문제 해결을 위한 호주 시민단체 (시드니 평화의 소녀상 연대, 멜번 평화의 소녀상 연대, 브리즈번 촛불)는 지난 20일, 2심 재판 결과에 대해 큰 실망과 분노를 느끼고 있습니다.
윤미향 의원과 김동희 관장은 성평등, 인권, 평화를 위해 오랜 기간 동안 헌신적으로 노력해온 분들로서 그 활동의 가치를 인정받아야 할 때입니다.
2심 재판 결과는 1심 판결과 비교하여 현저하게 다르며, 우리는 이 판결에 대한 의구심을 품고 있습니다. 1심에서 거의 모든 혐의가 무죄로 판단되었음에도 불구하고 2심에서는 가혹한 형량과 유죄 판결이 내려졌습니다.
윤미향 의원과 김동희 관장은 오랜 기간 동안 성노예 피해자와 함께하여 세계적으로 중요한 문제를 제기하고 해결책을 찾아 나가기 위해 헌신해 왔습니다.
그들의 활동은 인류의 역사와 인권에 대한 중요한 기여입니다.
